Background

Dr. Clavijo completed his medical degree at the University of Colombia and his internship and residency at the University of Louisville. He completed his Fellowship in Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, and Vascular Medicine & Peripheral Interventions at Georgetown University and the Washinghton Hospital. Dr. Clavijo has extensive research experience and completed a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics with emphasis in Vascular Biology and angiogenesis (development of new blood vessels). Dr. Clavijo is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, Alpha-Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology. As of August 2010, Dr. Clavijo was appointed to the position of Associate Director of the Cardiology Clinical Research Unit (CRU). His research interests include outcomes research in percutaneous coronary and peripheral vascular interventions, endothelial dysfunction-inflammation, angiogenesis-arteriogenesis. His clinical expertise related to performing complex cardiac coronary interventions and minimally invasive (non-surgical) endovascular techniques for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia. He has published over thirty peer reviewed articles in major research journals, multiple chapter books, and is frequently invited to speak on complex coronary and vascular interventions.
