OVERVIEW
The Body Computing Slam is an opportunity for up-and-coming networked medicine research teams, project groups, companies, and thought teams to inject their work into the consciousness of Body Computing.
The Body Computing Slam will take place as a night-before prelude to the main conference. Appetizers and drinks will be served during the event, and afterwards there will be a buffet dinner reception.
The presentations will be fast-paced and entertaining. A professional judging panel will weigh in on each group, and they will vote on the winner, who will receive a five thousand dollar cash prize this year, sponsored by AgaMatrix. See the competition guidelines below.
Guests to the main Body Computing Conference are welcome to attend the Slam on a first-come, first-served basis, and are asked when RSVP-ing for the main conference to indicate if they will attend the Slam as well.
COMPETITION GUIDELINES
BEST MOBILE HEALTH GAME APPLICATION
Sponsored by AgaMatrix and Zephyr Technology
September 22, 2011
Summary:
Mobile phones are becoming sophisticated health tools, and health apps have become popular among developers. While many of these health apps are excellent, we have yet
to see a popular health-game application.
The USC Center for Body Computing, headquartered at the USC Keck School of Medicine, works closely with the USC School of Cinematic Arts, the USC Marshall School of Business, and other USC schools. The Center for Body Computing (CBC) sees an enormous opportunity for a breakout health product. There are 5 billion cell phones in the world. More people have mobile phones than running water. Creating a popular health game app could have a positive impact on millions of people.
Who will create a game that is not only compelling and fun, but one that makes people health aware? Or, betters children's eating habits? Or, helps someone monitor their health in an interesting way? Or, creates a method for elderly patients to more effectively take their medicine? The possibilities are enormous.
The USC Center for Body Computing, AgaMatrix, and Zephyr Technology are hosting a contest and award dinner to encourage app developers to design health game apps. The grand prize winner will receive a $5,000 award sponsored by AgaMatrix, and a chance to demonstrate the winning app at a dinner sponsored by Zephyr. The award and event will be part of the Body Computing Conference. The mobile health prize dinner will take place on September 22 on the USC campus. A prestigious panel of judges will award the prize, and influential people in wireless health will be in attendance at the event.
Judging guidelines:
- Originality (Please, no fitness applications)
- Aesthetics of the user interface
- Entertaining gameplay
- How the game creates meaning and change in how the player thinks, feels, or behaves with regards to their health
What we need from you:
Develop a concept for a mobile health game and send us your pitch. Your pitch should cast a clear vision for what your game's overall look and feel is. Please include visual aids such as concept art, sketches, screenshots, wireframes or 3d models. Powerpoints are highly encouraged. This competition is deliberately broad and we encourage you to interpret it and experiment with it in any way you desire. We're looking for your creativity on this one!

- Participants can compete on their own, or form teams.
- If requested, contestants may be provided access to incorporate AgaMatrix or Zephyr Technology (leading real-time physiological and biomechanical monitoring companies) sensors into their application.
- Please include a 250-word (maximum) description of the app when the app is submitted with the application.
- If an app concept becomes a finalist, the team will be asked to present it or its prototype at the Slam competition on the evening of September 22nd at the University of Southern California. Judges from the industry as well as academia will be there to review projects and choose a winner.
