Fredericus (Fred) A. Colen is President of the Cardiac Rhythm Management Group and Executive Vice President of Boston Scientific Corporation as well as a member of the Executive Committee.
Mr. Colen joined the Company in 1999 as Vice President of Research and Development of Scimed, its Cardiovascular division. In February 2001, he was promoted to Senior Vice President, Cardiovascular Technology, responsible for Cardiovascular Research and Development. At the same time, he was appointed Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President of Boston Scientific, responsible for BSC's Clinical Sciences, Corporate Research and Development and strategic technology direction. In 2004, he was promoted to Executive Vice President, Boston Scientific while continuing his role as CTO, with responsibility for BSC's Clinical Sciences, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate R&D, and strategic technology direction.
In 2006, Fred assumed responsibility for Operations and Technology for the new CRM division continuing to serve as Executive Vice President in conjunction with his role as the CTO of Boston Scientific. In June, 2008, Fred was named President of CRM while continuing on as an Executive Vice President of Boston Scientific.
Before joining the Company, he worked for several medical device companies, including Guidant, where he launched the Delta T DDD Pacemaker platform, and St. Jude Medical, where he served as Managing Director for the European subsidiary of the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division and as Executive Vice President, responsible for worldwide R&D for implantable pacemaker systems.
Mr. Colen was educated in The Netherlands and Germany and holds the U.S. equivalent of a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on medical technology from the Technical University in Aachen, Germany. He was the Vice President of the International Association of Prosthesis Manufacturers (IAPM) in Brussels from 1995 to 1997. |
