Chris Kasabach
Co-Founder & Director
Body Media Inc.
Chris Kasabach co-founded BodyMedia, Inc. nearly 10 years ago and today the company is a world leader in the field of wearable health monitoring. BodyMedia's products create physiological movies of their wearer, displaying rich caloric, diabetes, cardiovascular and sleep information to users, health professionals and researchers anywhere in the world. Their global reach extends from major hospitals to rural clinics, North Pole explorers to network TV.
Prior to BodyMedia, Kasabach co-founded Sandbox Advanced Development which invented new categories and products for many global technology companies including Compaq, Kodak and Motorola. Much of Sandbox's work was informed by his time as co-director of Carnegie Mellon's Mobile and Wearable Computing Lab where the field of wearable computing was pioneered in the early 1990s.
Context is everything-this view has driven Kasabach's approach and comes from his earliest work in Africa where he lived in nearly every country below the Sahara desert working with consumer protection agencies, the United Nations and myriad tribes understanding the impact of American consumer products in developing countries. Kasabach's work has been recognized by the awards and publications that set the standard in design and business including the Gold IDEA and Medical Design Excellence Awards. He speaks widely on business, design and the good we can do when we turn our jobs into causes. Kasabach is a Thomas J. Watson Fellow and graduate of Carnegie Mellon's design program.
